About
Bio
Paula Blower is a Brazilian writer and interdisciplinary artist based in Vancouver, WA. She studied Communication (Advertising) in Brasília and worked as an advertising writer before pursuing contemporary art at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Holding a degree in Fashion Design, she has exhibited in São Paulo, Amsterdam, and Madrid. A 2025 Tin House Scholar, Paula studies creative writing at Clark College, where she assists the Columbia Writers Series. Her fiction and artwork have won multiple 2025 Hawkins and McCordic Awards.
Paula's work delves into the ephemeral, blending contrasting imagery and materials to craft emotionally charged landscapes, employing perishable matter and organic textures. Her experiments play with the delicate balance between object and substance, pushing the boundaries of impermanence through unconventional languages, techniques, and mediums.
Bodies. Skins. Costumes. Techniques (or volcanos). Paula does not hesitate in putting us in front of the grotesque to feel the poetry: body-poetry. The one that passes, transpasses us. The memories here become timeless. I remember the time in its fragile linear movement, the whole time. What skin do we wear? Of which memories do we appropriate? Would you risk it?
